Streamline went free on Steam for a limited time after it was given to Twitch Prime subscribers. I payed a lot more than a dollar back in the day for This War of Mine and some of the other games on this list. Twitch Prime members also get free monthly channel subscriptions.Įven though I already owned some of these games, I am pretty happy to get "free" games every month since I was already a subscriber. For Honor will be featured in two weeks to subscribers with some benefits and discounts. There are also other freebies for subscribers every month, generally loot items such as skins or clothing for various games (Watch Dogs 2, Smite etc.). Since Twitch Prime launched in September 2016, Prime subscribers have received "free" : Streamline, This War of Mine, Punch Club, The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead Season 2, Drawful 2, Heavy Bullets, RunGunJumpGun. Prime itself is basically a loyalty program similar to a costco membership in some ways. The key attraction for Prime since the program started is the free shipping, the video service and exclusive Prime deals. Most Prime subscribers aren't using it because they either don't know it exists or they have no interest in gaming. If they are being this cheap promoting their newly launched platform, I don't see them being too generous later (remember how much better discounts we got in earlier days of Steam, and how generous Valve was back then).Īmazon launched Twitch Prime in September as an additional benefit for Amazon Prime subscribers (generally $99 per year) at no additional cost. They are games that you would mostly likely not pay a dollar to play, or they have been available for free or a part of dollar bundles many times before.
With that said, I must admit I hate this Twitch deals popping up here. I see posts praising/supporting Valve all the time, and when they pull up greedy stunts or show a gradual decrease in their efforts to benefit their users, I only can sigh. It may hurt us now because we have to use separate launchers all the time, and it's really inconvenient to have our collection scattered around, but having more competition is what exactly Steam users need in the long run. I hate more launchers and I do not support Twitch Prime deals here, but I hate Steam's monopoly.
